arranging “on the spot”
The advantage of singing with sheet music is that you don't need to create the arrangement, as it is done for you. But sometimes it is fun to start from the song itself and use the skills of the experienced choir singers. In this workshop, I show you how to create a nice polyphonic pop-arrangement, where every singer feels comfortable singing within their capabilities. We tend to agree on the song you like to sing with your group in advance. I then prepare myself by listening to it, absorb the chords of the song, and allow the ideas of free arranging to grow on the spot. During the workshop I will try ideas out by improvising. We will be playful with grooves, harmonizing, backing vocals with attitude etc.. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, we learn, try different things .. that is the process which leads to a satisfying result. At the end of the workshop, you will have an arrangement customised to your group. It is convenient to record the sessions. I will take care of the lyrics, you just need a pencil to make some personal notes which may help you remember what you were singing. This workshop takes 3 hours. |
